Happy European Day of Languages

Yes, September 26th is the European Day of Languages!
I hope that many of you have completed the European Day of Languages quizzes in your Tutor Groups toady.  If not you'll get the opportunity to do so next week.
We had our usual event in school for Year 8 pupils from around Stockton.  Pupils from Blakeston, Bishopsgarth, St. Michael's, Our Lady and St. Bede's, St. Patrick's, TCS and Grangefield came to learn Dutch, Swedish and take part in a European Quiz.. Teams competed in mixed groups to win prizes of chocolate.  I hope that those who took part in the event had an enjoyable time.
Also my classes made some postcards with the motto "Learning a Language is..."  I've had some great ends to that sentence such as " a right lark" and "like having another member of the family"  bizarre but maybe true!  It was nice to read that nearly everybody said that "Learning a Language is...fun".  Maybe you were lying but atleast Mrs. Butterfield is happy!

Sock puppets with 8qF5

8qF5 and I are beginning to work on a new project this term.  We're going to work on improving our spoken French by writing some scripts to perform on video.  However, we're not going to perform in the traditional sense, as we want to put them here, on this blog so that everyone can see them.  Therefore, we're going to use puppets...sock puppets be be exact!
We began work on our project yesterday by making our puppets.  I brought in  socks, felt, googly eyes and glue and we all got busy creating.  Obviously, if you've  had me as a teacher, you'll know how obsessed I am with the condition of my room,  so we were very careful not to make too much mess!  Amazingly, even my puppet  turned out looking really good.
We are now going to move on to create some backgrounds, then write scripts and  perform our conversations.  We will also go onto write descriptions of our puppets (or pets, as think they are going to become)...all in French, of course.
