Year 9 Wordle

I read about a teacher who had used a lovely online application called Wordle to have her pupils create word clouds to help them remember key vocabulary.  On Wednesday 9qF3 were timetabled in Rm. 39 so I thought we'd give it a go.
Firstly, we used the Linguastars section of Linguascope to practise the school vocabulary that we had already learnt and then we used Wordle to make some word clouds from the key words that they chose.  I've added some of them here and you can see the rest of them on our Wiki here.

Blogging has begun

Just a very quick post for those who went to the Netherlands.  I've finally got round to making a start on adding to the Ian Ramsey goes Dutch blog.  So you will be able to see reports on some of the things that we did, whist we were away.

Wordle

I've been busy looking at pretty things this evening and was reminded of Wordle which is a lovely site that creates word clouds with pretty colours.  I put in the URL of this blog and apparently this is what it's about:

 

I'm glad to see that "pupils", "European" and "work" feature in there heavily (the most frequently used words are bigger),
Maybe you could use it to help you learn vocabulary, it would be a nice, visual way to remember things. We might have go at using it in class sometime.

Going to the Netherlands

Later on today, me, Mr. Jones and 15 Year 9 pupils will go to Terneuzen in the Netherlands for 6 days.  Once we get there, we will work on a project about life in the trenches during World War 1.  During out visit we will work with pupils from the Zeldenrust-Steelantcollege in Terneuzen to produce a newspaper about life for soldiers during World War 1.  In order to do this we shall be visiting the town of Ypres which was destroyed during fighting between 1914 and 1918.
In addition to this our Yr 9s will also visit the bi-lingual lessons at the Zeldenrust-Steelantcollege to meet the pupils from this class.  The bi-lingual class has many of its lessons taught in English, including History and Geography...imagine learning your History and Geopgraphy lessons in French or German!

Tag der deutschen Einheit

Hallo zusammen!
Am Freitag den 3. Oktober ist es der "Tag der deutschen Einheit".  Das ist ein Feiertag in Deutschland, wo die Deutschen  sich an der Wiedervereinigung Deutschlands 1989 erinnern.
Nach dem 2. Weltkrieg wurde Deutschland in 4 Besatzungszonen geteilt...heute haben wir davon gespochen. 
Bis zum 9. November 1989 stand die Berliner Mauer aber zwischen dem 9. und dem 10. November 1989 kam die Mauer unter!
Ab 1990 ist Deutschland wiedervereinigt worden.
Ich habe dieses Video und dieses Slideshow für Euch gemacht...es gibt sogar ein Lied am Video!
